SEADISH uses a special seaweed-mix for the production of tablewares. Our plates are 100% plant-based, which is home degradable in 30 days. To stay true to this core principle, the design of our tableware remains close to its nature. With its organic design, we try to remind the caterer and the consumer of the ocean and its pure marine life.
By replacing plastic disposables with seaweeds, SEADISH aims to contribute to the cleaning up of the oceans. This, in turn, will result into better quality ocean waters, in which seaweeds will thrive, enabling future farmers to grow them better, faster and longer. Also by using seaweeds, SEADISH proposes a solid solution to the food and biomass shortages that will take place by 2050.
The use of seaweed goes back at least 14.000 years and its purposes since then have been countless: they have been used for food supply, medical purposes and for fuel. This is because of its advantageous nature. Seaweed is the most sustainable crop, as well as the fastest growing in the world, with some species reaching a length of sixty meters within one harvest season.
Modern industries have been inspired to utilize seaweed again as a product for the future. Seaweed is the solution to many of our contemporary and future problems, such as shortages in food, farmland, and freshwater. We at SEADISH see seaweed, not only as the most important substitution for plastics but also as a contribution to the upscaling of the seaweed industry in our modern age.
We aim at an honest and sustainable seaweed agriculture. All the seaweed we choose is fair trade and ecologically farmed. This means no addition of toxic chemicals and no use of freshwater or excess amounts of farmland. All that is required is seawater and sunlight.
